scarecrow by GreenSprite scarecrow by GreenSprite
This is based on =NHuval-stock 's stock, [link] :)

I'm drawing/painting like crazy again. School starts next week and I don't know how much time will I have for this. So many unfinished things...

Watercolour, coloured inks, white gouache and masking fluid.

A few things I learned:
- if you're using masking fluid, at least mask more rather than less.
- masking fluid _will_ rip your paper
- I hate gouache

Hahahahahaha! Gouache can be the biggest pain in the butt to use, I swear XD. But WOW, the light in this is fantastic. I love how dappled it feels, perfect for a sunny field, and your colours are so fresh and light... I am totally envious of your ability to paint in watercolours. They're a tough paint to use, and you seem to have such a deft hand with them.

Haha, actually this was one of my first tries at gouache as a "grown-up artist". I used it a lot when I was a kid, but the knowledge got lost somehow  We're back together since.

Honestly, I'm pretty proud of this. Masking fluid *really* helped with the dappled light. Also, to be honest, this is more coloured ink than watercolour. That stuff's great. Similar to watercolour, but with a few extra perks (and the disadvantage of less texture and gradients are a bit more difficult to make). I need to stop ranting about media when nobody asked, damn it!

Thanks so much

Love your watercolors skill - and hate gouache too. Especially the grass and leaves are so beautiful, style-wise and color-wise :)

Thank you! Coming from you, it really means a lot. (You know, my "dream" is to be a comic artist but somehow my style does completely different things no matter how I try... I guess it's just not meant to be). I had a lot of fun in your gallery.

Oh, thank you :) And comics are so open (and still so young) that you could do them with any possible style, so I hope you'll go on with your dream.

This is gouache!? Or watercolor? Either way, it's to die for. Gorgeous work.

Watercolor all the way, except for the white accents in the grass (which I kind of regret anyway). Thank you so much, I'm honestly surprised that you found something worthy in my gallery.

oh your painting skills are pretty impressive *_* I'm really envious of people who can't paint well with Real paint (as opposed to photoshop paint ;p) but I can never get myself to practise more...

oops silly typo, who CAN paint well, is what I meant of course. Yeah, see, I used to paint with watercolours a lot when I was little, but I've become pretty hesitant about using media that can't be erased when I make a mistake :B spoiled by photoshop...

I see a lot of people fearing mistakes, but I only ever ruined one painting with a mistake, and even then I had the intuition to scan it first :D Most mistakes are small and can be in fact used to your advantage or covered up in some way.

Please tell me what you mean by masking fluid? I do not understand. -_-
maybe give me a link to an online store or description? ..

Online store: [link]

It's a thick paste/liquid that you apply - before painting - to the areas you want to keep white. After it dries, you can paint and the paper under the masking fluid will be protected. When you're done, you remove it (it peels off easily). That's how I made the white/yellow plants.

It's not as complicated as it sounds, I just don't know how to explain it better.

Beautiful painting. Lovely summery effect, it feels really warm. Your use of watercolours is always so effortless.

I like the tips about masking-fluid. :D It can be a bugger. I only tried using it the once and it nearly made me cry with frustration!

Beautiful piece, I love the foreground and all the shades.

Not all the masking fluid rips your paper :D Testing done, and I've found one that haven't ripped my paper.
