Gate of the magi

In most other cities, the mage guild would reside in a tower in the city's fortifications, maybe have an academy. But here, they have their own city next to ours. It seems even larger, but nobody knows for sure. There is only one way in, and the gate is not guarded, but ask anyone and they will tell you nobody has ever entered unless the magi invited them inside.

I painted it last night, based on an old sketch I found. I tried to do something that's a bit counterintuitive to me: make the focal point less saturated than the rest of the picture. It seemed to work and I'm very pleased with this. The image is also a bit inspired by the Boogie Bubble song of Lake of Tears. My mind comes up with some pretty weird stuff!
